Hi, I’m Samantha! I am a twenty-something freelance journalist and lifestyle blogger, out of Abbotsford, BC. I am a single mother to my son Ryerson, and a strong mental health advocate. I believe in supporting and raising awareness on the stigma behind anxiety and depression while balancing a family and career.
What are you most looking forward to do as a new Associate Editor of Mint To Inspire?
I am super excited to be apart of this team and being able to collectively work with like-minded ladies who are all about uplifting and inspiring others with working with some great boss ladies. I am also looking forward to taking on a more “leadership” role and how to up my photography game!
What do you do during your free time?
I have a toddler at home – what is free time? LOL.
How did you get started with writing?
To be honest I sort of just fell into it. I always thought I wanted be a doctor when I was younger but soon realized I didn’t want to spend all that time in school. One day my mom stumbled across some of my poems and limericks as a child and was blown away by the language and detail behind them. I always had a knack for journaling and note taking – So she suggested I possibly considering writing as an avenue or career path, and I’ve been sticking with it ever since.
What is your favourite part about writing?
Oh that’s a tough one, probably the versatility behind writing. That you can become different characters and immerse yourself in the words. I love being able to express myself in writing – I feel a sense of power.
What is a quick tip for someone that is starting out as a writer?
Be authentic and true to yourself. But also network and build up some good connections! A lot of the industry is word of mouth.
What inspires you and how would you like to inspire others?
My son is now a big inspiration for me, since he’s been born. Also I get inspirations from books or things I see on television or outside in the world. I don’t really have any one set thing that really inspires me.
I would like to inspire others with my story. Who I am. How I go to where I am now, and where I still want to be. Coming from an abusive family, to dealing with being a single parent struggling with depression – I want to be a voice for others who don’t have one.
We are super excited to have Sam as part of the team, you can follow her on Instagram to learn more about her!
