When I check out a website, one of the first things I do is check their about page. I’m able to know more about the website, whether it’s a blog, business or organization. I came to their website for a reason, to learn more about them, to see what they have to offer so having an about page is super important. Here’s some things to think about:
Figure Out Your Target Market
This is an important step. Identify who this website is for, it will make writing your about page much easier. Who would visit your website/blog? What do you want them to get out of it? Make sure to ask these questions to yourself before writing your about page.
What Makes You Different?
This step can be hard! There’s so many blogs and business websites out there but what’s one thing that makes you different than them? Figure it out by writing what you think your blog or business is about on a piece of paper. Link things that fit together and take things away that don’t fit. What makes you different than the other websites?
Take Your Time
About pages can’t be written overnight. I suggest you start with your about page by making a draft of it. Then focus on the rest of your blog/business such as categories for your blog, the contact page and any other pages you may have. Then come back to the about page, things may change by then and you’ll probably get a good look at what your website is all about. Your about page will be easy to edit and get it right.
Gather Everything Together
Always talk about yourself. Other than talking about your business or visions for your blog, never forget to write about YOU. Being personal is super important in this situation because you want your readers to know who you are, what you do and connect with you. Make sure to include a face in your about page with a professional photo and write about things you think they may want to know about you.
